Growth
How to start a creator account that actually grows

Most new creators make the same early mistake: they start with a genuinely broad topic and assume they'll figure out their specific niche later, once they've built some initial momentum. By the time that clarity actually arrives, they've often already posted 40-50 videos that confuse anyone landing on the profile for the first time about what the account is actually for.
Why specificity is your real advantage at zero followers
At zero followers, you can't compete on production quality, network effects, or brand recognition — none of those exist for you yet. What you can compete on is being the single most useful account for one narrow, specific problem. "I'm a fitness creator" is too broad to be anyone's obvious answer to anything. "I help busy professionals do effective strength training in 20 minutes at home, no gym required" is specific enough that a person landing on the profile immediately knows within seconds whether it's actually for them.
A concrete zero-to-one path
1. Pick one specific problem for one specific person, not a general category. Specificity is genuinely an advantage here, not a limitation, because it makes the account's value instantly legible to the right person.
2. Make 10 posts solving that specific problem before spending any real energy worrying about growth numbers at all. This is a proof-of-concept phase, not yet a growth phase.
3. Post consistently through that first batch, and pay close attention to which specific posts people actually watch, save, or comment on — not just which ones you personally liked making.
4. Make more of what performed, refine what didn't, and repeat this cycle through roughly post 20.
5. By post 20, you should have a small but real audience — small enough that you could plausibly know several of them personally, and large enough to start providing genuine feedback signal about what's working.
What changes at each stage
| Stage | Primary focus | What "success" looks like here |
|---|---|---|
| Posts 1-10 | Prove the concept, establish the niche clearly | Consistent posting, clear niche identity |
| Posts 11-20 | Learn from real feedback signal | Identifiable patterns in what performs |
| Post 20+ | Begin actual growth optimization | A real, if small, audience to build from |
Why growth work comes after niche clarity, not before
Growth tactics — hooks, posting cadence, cross-platform strategy — matter enormously, but they're most effective once there's already a clear niche identity for them to amplify. Applying aggressive growth tactics to an account that still hasn't defined a clear niche mostly just accelerates confusion rather than genuine growth, bringing in the wrong audience faster.
Growth comes later in this sequence, and it comes considerably easier once niche clarity is genuinely nailed down first — not the other way around, however tempting it is to chase growth tactics from day one.
